THE THOMAS O. ENDERS FELLOWSHIP

Thomas O. EndersIn recognition and commemoration of the influence Thomas O. Enders had on Canada-U.S. relations and on the mutual understanding between the two countries, a group of dedicated friends and supporters established the Thomas O. Enders Endowment within the Association for Canadian Studies in the United States (ACSUS). This endowment is designed to encourage advanced scholarship on Canada-U.S. relations by funding fellowships for senior scholars that permit them to pursue their research in a Canadian university setting. Tom Enders' special interests included political and economic policy, trade, and energy--these are among the topics that the endowment supports as a means of contributing to improved mutual understanding between the United States and Canada.Tom Enders was a U.S.statesman whose life, work, and service, in particular as U.S. Ambassador to Canada and Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs, strengthened the political and economic links as well as the friendship between the United States and Canada.

ENDERS FELLOWS

Michael Ryan Galbreth, 2009/10 Fulbright-Enders Fellow , University of South CarolinaColumbia, Management Science Department, Moore School of Business, "Reducing Waste Profitably: Models to Improve the Collection, Remanufacturing, and Redistribution of Used Products

Summary:

In recent years, the lifecycles of many products have shortened, even as concern over the environmental impact of discarded items has increased. The problem of how used items can be diverted from the waste stream is of increasing interest to consumers, businesses and academics. Effective management of the collection, remanufacturing, and redistribution of used items (the closed-loop supply chain) is critical to accomplishing this waste reduction profitably. I propose to work with scholars at McGill University to share perspectives and develop models to improve closed-loop supply chain efficiency, contributing to both the theory and practice of this key component of sustainable operations.
