The Center for the Study of Canada at State University of New York College at Plattsburgh and the Foundation for Educational Exchange between Canada and the United States of America, (aka Fulbright Canada), in partnership with the Office of International Programs at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the American Review of Canadian Studies, are pleased to announce that we will be convening a colloquium entitled “Issues in Canadian Studies: Views from America”. The colloquium is designed to provide American doctoral students and early career professionals, ideally who are members of the CONNECT mentoring program and/or alumni of the Fulbright program, a venue to showcase innovative and original research by new scholars working on issues relating to Canada. Canadian scholars working in the United States may also be considered for this opportunity.
The colloquium, which is open to proposals on all topics with a significant Canadian focus, will be held on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on October 13-14, 2015. We will be considering submissions from doctoral candidates, early career academics, practitioners, and in limited cases, more established scholars. The deadline for proposals is May 15, 2015. The colloquium is designed to compliment and coincide with the biennial conference of the Association for Canadian Studies in the United States (ACSUS), which is scheduled for October 14-17, 2015 at the Tuscany Suites Hotel in Las Vegas.
Dr. Christopher Kirkey, Director of the Center for the Study of Canada and the CONNECT program, and Dr. Michael Hawes, CEO of the Foundation for Educational Exchange between Canada and the United States of America and Executive Director of Fulbright Canada, will serve as the colloquium coordinators and journal co-editors. Our academic partner and host for the colloquium is Susan Thompson, Director of International Programs at UNLV.
Selected papers from the colloquium will be edited (by Kirkey & Hawes) and published as a special issue of the American Review of Canadian Studies in 2016.
